What a fantastic event run by the team at SUP Barmouth, arriving to the Campsite on Friday afternoon it was amazing to erect the tents drenched in the evening sun. With 14 members joining us from Mid Cheshire SUP the excitement for the weekends events was starting to build.
The evening drew in and members attended a safety and event brief by the organisers of the event bringing all aspects of paddling together. They weekend promised to have everything from taster sessions for all and rafting races with teams from the local bars and emergency services.
Back to the campsite after a beverage and in time to get into the tents before the heavens opened and released the full years rainfall (it would seem) in an 8 hour period. Did this dampen our spirits? absolutely not! When the wind blows and the swell increases there is only one thing to do, release the XL Sup and get the team riding the swell.
After a morning blowing out even the smallest cobwebs it was time to take part in the main event, paddling down the waters being assisted by the incoming tide. Taking in the amazing views that were on offer whilst trying to navigate the moving water made this paddle even more memorable, the bow turns really were required in challenging conditions that tested us and made sure we were all switched on.
As we turned to the final leg the welcoming sight of the George public house was more than enough motivation for us to push through and reach the finish line where a ice cold beer and a bowl of chunky chips and mayo was awaiting us. After a well earned break transport back to Barmouth was arranged where we then continued in the festivities within the mouth of the Harbour.
We all from Mid Cheshire SUP want to thank the event organisers and SUP Barmouth for the invite to such an amazing event. We are looking to return the favour to SUP Barmouth and other SUP Clubs in the future.
